ASHRAE Awards Carmel Software a Contract to Develop Customized ASHRAE Standard 62.1 iPhone Application

San Rafael, CA, January 15, 2010 Carmel Software is pleased to announce that the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has awarded Carmel a contract to develop a custom-made, ASHRAE-branded iPhone application for calculating ASHRAE Standard 62.1 compliance. ASHRAE 62.1 is the internationally accepted standard for determining acceptable indoor air quality for commercial buildings. The purpose of the standard is to specify minimum ventilation rates and other measures intended to provide indoor air quality that is acceptable to human occupants and that minimizes adverse health effects. This will be the first iPhone/iPod Touch application sold by ASHRAE.

This application will replicate much of the functionality of the ASHRAE 62.1 Excel spreadsheet that accompanies each copy of the printed standard and workbook. It will include the ability to add critical zones and all of their properties, and it will also include the Table 6.1 outdoor air rates for different types of occupied spaces.

The advantage of performing these calculations on the iPhone or iPod Touch versus the computer desktop is that it allows an engineer to quickly perform a recommended outdoor airflow calculation while located in the field. It also includes the ability to email this information back to the office so the user can perform a more in-depth analysis.

Other functionality includes the ability to email results, toggle between imperial and metric units, save multiple projects, create project templates for better information re-use, and much more.

"It's an honor to be chosen by ASHRAE, an organization that is a leading light in the push for sustainable building design, to develop a cutting-edge application for the wildly popular iPhone and iPod Touch, " says Stephen Roth, Principal of Carmel.
